As part of the University Library, the Asia Library collects and provides access to resources in all formats in the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages. TIAA and Fidelity Investments&#8217; retirement benefits are available.<\/p>\n<h3>Responsibilities*<\/h3>\n<h4><strong>Collection and public service (40%)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide initial assistance to Asia Library patrons by providing directional information, support for using online catalogs, databases, and web pages; refer onsite users, online users, and telephone callers to subject librarians for in-depth consultations; assist patrons of the Oka Tadoku Room.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with subject specialists, providing collection assistance to visiting scholars.<\/li>\n<li>Fulfill Interlibrary Loan requests, retrieving books and journals with East Asian-language articles in print and online and identifying pagination.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with Asia Library exhibits.<\/li>\n<li>Assist Asia Library subject specialists on instruction, upon request.<\/li>\n<li>Assist librarians and other faculty by preparing Asia Library information and collection materials for lectures and workshops.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Technical service (40%)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Organize backlogs of newly acquired materials and help with managing historical backlogs.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare materials for cataloging outsourcing.<\/li>\n<li>Partner with the Stacks Office to ensure efficient resolution of issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Workplace Coordination (10%)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Be the Asia Library liaison to units such as Facilities, Circulation, and Preservation.<\/li>\n<li>Oversee the Asia Library Main Office space and support the Asia Library&#8217;s daily operations and productivity.<\/li>\n<li>Provide assistance in the preparation and execution of Asia Library programs and events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Professional Development (10%)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Attend department meetings, Division meetings, library-wide meetings, appropriate staff development workshops, and other professional development opportunities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Required Qualifications*<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Professional proficiency in English and one of the following East Asian languages: Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated service-oriented attitude with multiple partner groups.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated problem-solving, attention to detail, and organizational skills.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent written and communication (oral, listening and speaking) skills.<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to prioritize, take initiative, and perform collaborative and independent work.<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in computer-based applications such as Google, Word, and PowerPoint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Modes of Work<\/h3>\n<p>The mode of work is on-site with a possible hybrid option at the discretion of the hiring department. Classification and salary are dependent on the selected candidate&#8217;s qualifications and experience.
