{"id":7449,"date":"2022-01-28T13:40:28","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T21:40:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eastasianlib.org\/newsite\/?p=7449"},"modified":"2023-05-10T14:13:39","modified_gmt":"2023-05-10T21:13:39","slug":"humanities-and-social-sciences-library-mcgill-university-liaison-librarian-history-east-asian-studies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eastasianlib.org\/newsite\/humanities-and-social-sciences-library-mcgill-university-liaison-librarian-history-east-asian-studies\/","title":{"rendered":"Humanities and Social Sciences Library McGill University: Liaison Librarian, History &#038; East Asian Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Position Summary:<\/b> To assist in the provision of a range of library and information services and collections to support teaching, learning, research, and outreach activities in the Humanities and Social Sciences at McGill University.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This liaison librarian position will support teaching, learning, and research in History (all areas) and East Asian Studies.<\/p>\n<p>Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:<br \/>\n\u2022 Advise clients on discovering, accessing, and effectively using the full range of library and information resources available to meet teaching, learning and research needs in specific discipline areas.<br \/>\n\u2022 Provide to on-site and remote clients, assistance and consultation services in information resource<br \/>\ndiscovery and access in relation to specific teaching, learning or research needs.<br \/>\n\u2022 Develop and maintain communication links, and appropriately liaise with designated academic<br \/>\ndepartments and\/or university centres to ensure library and information needs are understood and met.<br \/>\n\u2022 Coordinate the work of other library staff in designated areas and work effectively as a member of a team.<br \/>\n\u2022 Conduct information literacy\/skills classes and training programs for clients and library staff.<br \/>\n\u2022 Develop, produce, and maintain library documentation, including web content.<br \/>\n\u2022 Assist in the development of the Library&#8217;s collection in specific disciplinary areas to ensure teaching, learning, and research needs are met.<br \/>\n\u2022 Promote the Library\u2019s resources and services and assist in fundraising activities as appropriate.<br \/>\n\u2022 Work in partnership with other library and University staff and sections, as well as external groups, on specific projects.<br \/>\n\u2022 Serve on various library, faculty, and university committees and represent the library on external<br \/>\ncommittees, as required.<br \/>\n\u2022 Maintain current awareness of emerging technologies and developments in the library, education,<br \/>\nand information environments and develop possible responses.<br \/>\n\u2022 The discipline areas outlined on the posting are not exclusive and may change over time.<br \/>\n\u2022 The list of duties and responsibilities outlined above is representative and not a complete and detailed list of tasks which may be performed by a librarian. It may be amended from time to time.<br \/>\nReporting relationship<br \/>\nThe position reports to the Head, Liaison Services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SELECTION CRITERIA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Required:<br \/>\n1. ALA-accredited master\u2019s degree in library or information science.<br \/>\n2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.<br \/>\n3. Proficiency in Chinese, written and spoken.<br \/>\n4. User-focused orientation in provision of library services.<br \/>\n5. Three years of professional experience serving library users in an academic setting.<br \/>\n6. Knowledge of, and experience in, the use of relevant information resources, including electronic and networked resources.<br \/>\n7. Experience developing and offering information literacy classes to both small and large groups.<br \/>\n8. Experience developing a collection of print and online resources in the areas of History and\/or East Asian Studies.<br \/>\n9. Sound information and communication technology skills.<br \/>\n10. Excellent organizational, user service, and teamwork skills.<br \/>\n11. High level of professionalism, a commitment to the organization and its mission, and the ability to work flexibly in a changing environment.<br \/>\n12.
