Position Summary:<\/b> To assist in the provision of a range of library and information services and collections to support teaching, learning, research, and outreach activities in the Humanities and Social Sciences at McGill University.<\/p>\n

\n\u2022 Advise clients on discovering, accessing, and effectively using the full range of library and information resources available to meet teaching, learning and research needs in specific discipline areas.
\n\u2022 Provide to on-site and remote clients, assistance and consultation services in information resource
\ndiscovery and access in relation to specific teaching, learning or research needs.
\n\u2022 Develop and maintain communication links, and appropriately liaise with designated academic
\ndepartments and\/or university centres to ensure library and information needs are understood and met.
\n\u2022 Coordinate the work of other library staff in designated areas and work effectively as a member of a team.
\n\u2022 Conduct information literacy\/skills classes and training programs for clients and library staff.
\n\u2022 Develop, produce, and maintain library documentation, including web content.
\n\u2022 Assist in the development of the Library’s collection in specific disciplinary areas to ensure teaching, learning, and research needs are met.
\n\u2022 Promote the Library\u2019s resources and services and assist in fundraising activities as appropriate.
\n\u2022 Work in partnership with other library and University staff and sections, as well as external groups, on specific projects.
\n\u2022 Serve on various library, faculty, and university committees and represent the library on external
\ncommittees, as required.
\n\u2022 Maintain current awareness of emerging technologies and developments in the library, education,
\nand information environments and develop possible responses.

\nThe position reports to the Head, Liaison Services.<\/p>\n
\n1. ALA-accredited master\u2019s degree in library or information science.
\n2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
\n3. Proficiency in Chinese, written and spoken.
\n4. User-focused orientation in provision of library services.
\n5. Three years of professional experience serving library users in an academic setting.
\n6. Knowledge of, and experience in, the use of relevant information resources, including electronic and networked resources.
\n7. Experience developing and offering information literacy classes to both small and large groups.
\n8. Experience developing a collection of print and online resources in the areas of History and\/or East Asian Studies.
\n9. Sound information and communication technology skills.
\n10. Excellent organizational, user service, and teamwork skills.
\n11. High level of professionalism, a commitment to the organization and its mission, and the ability to work flexibly in a changing environment.
\n12. Ability to understand and respond to priorities and trends in the Library and University environments.<\/p>\n\n
