Responsibilities include designing efficient workflows; using technology to enhance operations; evaluating and implementing cataloging and metadata standards, policies, and procedures; and managing acquisitions processes in accordance with Libraries\u2019 fiscal policies. Collaborate with Librarians of the Center for Global Collections to set cataloging and acquisitions priorities. As a part of the management team of the Information Processing Center (IPC), participate in strategic and operational planning for the IPC, as well as participating in library-wide projects, committees, and task forces, and coordinate the work of Global Studies Technical Services with the Libraries more broadly.<\/p>\n<p><b><u>Job Description<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Job Responsibilities<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provides leadership, managerial direction, and oversight for the operations of the Global Studies Technical Services department. \u00a0Designs and monitors effective workflows that increase productivity; evaluates and implements standards and policies; sets and assesses department priorities based on institutional needs<\/li>\n<li>Supervises, hires, trains, develops, and reviews performance of staff and student workers<\/li>\n<li>Uses technology to develop and identify innovative cataloging and acquisitions processes to increase output and improve access to global collections materials. Oversees and directly performs batch metadata loading operations for acquisitions functions and bibliographic work. Works with vendors to identify and implement services that promote processing efficiencies.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with Librarians of the Center for Global Collections to set cataloging and acquisitions priorities.\u00a0 Consult with acquisitions and cataloging experts in the library to align policies and standards. Act as a resource and liaison for Global Studies Technical Services work as it relates to the Libraries more broadly.<\/li>\n<li>Performs technical services functions for materials in languages of competency, including cataloging, classification, metadata design, and acquisitions processes.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the strategic and operational planning for the Information Processing Center, as part of the management team.\u00a0 Assist in managing space and facilities as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in library-wide and national projects, committees, and task forces dedicated to fulfilling the academic and institutional needs of the University of Pennsylvania.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Qualifications<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Required:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ALA-accredited master\u2019s degree in library and information science, or the equivalent in education and experience.<\/li>\n<li>Minimum of three years of professional experience in technical services, including supervisory experience.<\/li>\n<li>Reading-level understanding of at least one non-English language represented in the Chinese, Japanese, Middle East, South Asian, Hebraic or Slavic Collections.\u00a0 Ability to work global languages in library metadata generally.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging standards, issues, and trends.\u00a0 Familiarity with acquisitions standards and practices.\u00a0\u00a0 Working knowledge of bibliographic utilities and integrated library systems.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with metadata management tools (MARC Edit, OpenRefine, etc.), and batch processes.<\/li>\n<li>Evidence of a strong commitment to service in a production-oriented environment.\u00a0 Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.\u00a0 Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.\u00a0 Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.\u00a0 Flexibility in response to change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Preferred:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience managing cataloging and metadata projects and complex workflows.<\/li>\n<li>\u00adFamiliarity with established and developing metadata standards, such as BIFRAME.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Application Requirement:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A Cover Letter and Resume\/CV are required to be considered for this position.
