East Asia Library: Korean Studies Librarian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Position Summary: <\/b>The Korean Studies Librarian develops and manages social sciences and humanities collections related to Korea in the Korean language and is responsible for providing reference and bibliographic assistance to Stanford faculty, students, and scholars using these language materials.<\/p>\n<p><b><span lang=\"EN\">MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span lang=\"EN\">Education and Experience:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">At Librarian 2 level:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Advanced Degree in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline with demonstrated understanding of academic libraries and two or more years of relevant experience in a relevant library setting or a combination of education and relevant experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">At Librarian 3 level:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Advanced Degree in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline with demonstrated understanding of academic libraries and five years of experience in a relevant library setting with evidence of capacity to work at a high level of responsibility or a combination of education and relevant experience.<b><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span lang=\"EN\">Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Knowledge of Korean history, literature, culture.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Expert level proficiency in written and spoken Korean language. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Knowledge of current research trends in Korean studies.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Knowledge of information resources related to Korea in all formats.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Knowledge of trends in publishing industry and book trade in Korea.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Demonstrated ability to interact frequently with Korean Studies faculty and graduate students as well as Korean and Korean American undergraduate students regarding the needs and aspirations of individual and collective programs in order to inform collection development and acquisitions decisions as well as provision of services.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Demonstrated ability to provide expert level reference in Korean Studies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Demonstrated ability to give academic presentations in person or by network technologies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and across different groups.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Demonstrated ability to evaluate online resources in terms of content quality, functionality, and user interface issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Ability to write engaging descriptions to promote collections and\/or projects.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Understanding of contemporary\u00a0research\u00a0library practices, trends, and emerging technologies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Ability to identify challenges and opportunities, engage others in their resolution and recommend appropriate courses of action.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Commitment to contribute to the library and collaborate effectively with the rest of the organization.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Evidence of engagement in relevant professional or academic communities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Consistent display of excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Supplemental knowledge of Chinese, Japanese or other Asian language, as well as relevant history and\/or literature preferred.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Experience with event planning, exhibit preparation, academic writing and presentations preferred.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Successful experience working with colleagues in an East Asia Library environment and with other units of a large research library.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">At Librarian 3 level: all of the above, plus:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Ability to plan, organize, coordinate events and\/or exhibits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Ability to manage projects, develop policies or drive initiatives across functional lines.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Knowledge of trends in digital humanities for Korean Studies.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span lang=\"EN\">Physical Requirements:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Frequently twist\/bend\/stoop\/squat, grasps lightly\/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort\/file paperwork or parts, lift\/carry\/push\/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Occasionally stand\/walk, reach\/work above shoulders, writing by hand, kneel\/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Rarely use a telephone, operate hand controls.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 50 pounds.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">* &#8211; Consistent with its obligations under the law, the University will provide
