The Diamond Law Library at Columbia University has an opening for a Librarian for East Asian Law, who will support research and teaching of the faculty and students of Columbia Law School by developing the Law Library\u2019s Japanese, Chinese, and Korean law collections, and providing reference services to students, faculty, visitors, fee-based service members, and the local, national, and international legal community.<\/p>\n

Reporting to the Associate Director, the successful candidate will develop Columbia\u2019s Japanese, Chinese and Korean law collections by selecting new materials for purchase and selecting new additions from gift materials.  The position will also serve as the initial contact for gifts of monographs, serials, and E-resources; and will identify which books to weed or transfer to offsite storage.  Responsibilities also include training law students and others through classroom teaching, workshops, and one-on-one instruction; providing in-depth research assistance for faculty members; creating and maintaining LibGuides; and other related duties.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Minimum Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0JD or equivalent and\/or MLS or equivalent from an accredited institution;<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Demonstrated linguistic proficiency in verbal and written communication in English and Japanese; competence in an additional East Asian language is highly desirable;<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Demonstrated knowledge of current relevant library and\/or scholarly communications trends and issues as they pertain to Japanese\/East Asian law;<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Advanced knowledge of collection development principles\u00a0 and practices<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Extensive experience with the use of legal and non-legal research tools;<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills;<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Strong service and teamwork orientation; and<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Technological competency and a willingness to learn new technology as needed.<\/p>\n

Preferred Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n
