The Committee on Chinese Materials (CCM) is one of three area standing committees of the Council on East Asian Libraries (CEAL), “each having as its focus of concern one of the three major geographical areas of East Asia, here defined as China, Japan, and Korea.” Under CEAL bylaws, the CCM works to achieve the objectives of CEAL by promoting Chinese language collections and services to the academic community in North America, professional training for Chinese studies librarians, and cultural, scholarly, and professional exchange about China studies and Chinese librarianship nationally and internationally.
Chair of the CCM is a CEAL member and elected by CEAL membership serving a three-year term. Chair of the committee also is a voting member of the CEAL Executive Board. Members of CCM are CEAL members appointed by the committee chair with the approval of the CEAL Executive Board.
The committee runs a program during the annual CEAL/AAS conference, and maintains an official website linked to CEAL Homepage. It also initiates other projects in achieving its objectives. The training programs for Chinese Studies Librarianship can be found here.
